Connecting education to exceptional patient care.

Keynote Speaker:  Mark Hertling, DBA, Lieutenant General, US Army (retired), retired after 38 years of service to the US Army in 2013.  He served as Senior Vice President at the innovative Florida Hospital in Orlando from 2013-2017 and is now an advisor to the Advent Health Leadership Institute.

After retiring from the Army, Dr. Hertling was appointed by President Obama to be one of 25 members of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sport and Nutrition from 2014-2017.  He still serves as an advisor to the non-profit organizations “Operation Gratitude” in California and “Mission: Readiness” in Washington DC.  He is an adjunct scholar at West Point’s Modern War Institute and teaches leadership at the Crummer School of Business of Rollins College in Orlando.  Dr. Hertling is often seen on CNN as their senior military analyst.

Hertling received a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Military Academy in 1975. He is also a graduate of the School of Public Health from Indiana University, the Army's Staff College, the School of Advanced Military Studies, and the National War College. He holds Master Degrees in Kinesiology, Military Arts and Science, and National Security Studies from these institutions. In 2019, he received a Doctorate in Business Administration from the Crummer School at Rollins College, defending a thesis addressing leadership in the healthcare industry. His book, Growing Physician Leaders, was published in May 2016.
