National Initiative VII Teams Announced

Thirty-one AIAMC member institutions have been selected to participate in National Initiative VII:  Teaming for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP).  These teams (see below) were selected based upon their commitment to improve teaming in their respective institutions and will choose a project that best supports local needs and strategic goals.

The concept of teaming, characterized as teamwork on the fly, has significance across health profession learning and practice.  While health profession curricula are designed to inspire learners in the concepts of teamwork, the transfer of knowledge to skill is met with challenges inherent in the complex clinical practice setting and learning environment.  We need to better understand the concepts of teaming for interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) and the relationship to health care outcomes.

Work will begin this month with teams completing various tool kits and required readings.  This pre-work will equip teams with the tools needed to complete project management plans at the first in-person learning session on October 10th - 11th in Chicago.

The AIAMC National Initiative (NI) is the only national and multi-institutional collaborative of its kind in which residents have led multidisciplinary teams in quality improvement projects aligned to their institution's strategic goals.  With the launch of NI VII, 67 hospitals and health systems and more than 1200 individuals have participated since 2007, driving change that has resulted in meaningful & sustainable outcomes improving the quality & safety of patient care.
