"The AIAMC has captured the compelling need for an organized national approach to QI and
Safety, integrated with GME. This has been a focus of many teaching hospitals and
academic institutions, but without the infrastructure or sufficient expertise to help
them advance this agenda. The AIAMC recognized the need and organized a ‘learning
community’ for education, resources and sharing best practices. Joining the AIAMC
provided our organization with the opportunity to be a part of the National Initiatives
and to collaborate with same-minded individuals."

Delivering Value
See the value and advantages provided by the AIAMC from our members’ unique perspective.
As the only national organization focused on the needs of independent academic medical
centers, the AIAMC is uniquely sized and poised to provide its members with the core,
foundational value of networking. Networking in the AIAMC takes on many forms through
our key values: creating and sharing best practices, delivering relevant and targeted
services, and providing strong and respected representation on accrediting bodies and
other national institutions.
These key values are evidenced through multiple benefits of membership, including:
Value: Creating and Sharing Best Practices
Value: Delivering Relevant and Targeted Services
Member benefits include annual GME and research benchmarking surveys and the AIAMC Job Board.
"I have found membership in the AIAMC to be extremely valuable. Very few do research
development in academic medical centers, and it is wonderful to network with this niche
group. The Job Board and Benchmarking Survey are also incredibly valuable tools for us.
The AIAMC is an organization committed to meeting its members’ needs. It is truly all
about how to best support its members."

Value: Providing Strong and Respected Representation
Member benefits include the AIAMC’s recognition by national boards and committees,
reflected in multiple invitations for advocacy that ultimately strengthen the collective
voice of the independent academic medical center.
"I learned about AIAMC when I was new to my role as VPME. Having come from an academic
medical center, I was not aware of the work or the organization. I went to the first
annual meeting only because my predecessor had. When I went to the meeting, I was
shocked and impressed at the content and engagement. I was thrilled about the National
Initiative participants, and learned a great deal at that first meeting. The next year,
I did not go to the ACGME meeting but instead chose the AIAMC meeting. It’s the only
national meeting where the AAMC, ACGME, ACCME, AHA, AMA, IHI, TJC and others are
represented. The size of the group is also a benefit: It is large enough to draw great
speakers, but small enough to feel that we all make an impact and great connections."

*The AIAMC National Initiative (NI) is the only national and multi-institutional collaborative of its kind in which residents lead multidisciplinary teams in quality improvement projects aligned to their institution’s strategic goals. Sixty-four hospitals and health systems and more than 1,000 individuals have participated in the AIAMC National Initiatives since 2007 and have driven change that resulted in meaningful and sustainable outcomes, which improved the quality and safety of patient care.
