AMCs emerged in the early 20th century and came into their own after World War II as a result of post-war policies that expanded medical schools coupled with public investment that fueled the initial wave of AMC development and growth.  A combination of market forces in healthcare, including consolidation, the shortage of specialists and consumerism over the past decade has dramatically altered the identity and DNA of what it means to be an "AMC" and the overall trajectory of academic medicine.  This webinar will explore the emergence of modern AMCs and academic health systems (AHS), how the hospital/health system and medical school relate to one another, and their future impact on medical education, health-related research, and patient care.
