Job Description / Duties

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNM HSC) is seeking a dynamic, visionary leader to become the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the UNM Medical Group (UNMMG). The CEO will develop a compelling vision for the future of UNMMG and collaborate with numerous UNM HSC stakeholders to implement that vision. The ultimate goal will be to enhance clinical care delivery while meeting the needs of faculty, staff, patients, and New Mexico’s rich multicultural, multiethnic communities. 

University of New Mexico Health System (UNM Health System) is the largest health system in the state, comprised of the UNM Hospital, UNM Medical Group, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center and Sandoval Regional Health Center. UNM Health System represents a $1.5 billion enterprise. The CEO for UNMMG will play a vital role in a changing landscape, with primary responsibility for and oversight of the faculty practice organization with more than 1,200 clinicians, ten clinics spanning a variety of clinical areas, more than 500 direct employees, approximately $250 million in annual revenue, and a number of select institutional partnerships.

In this singular position, the UNMMG CEO will be required to balance a number of UNM HSC priorities and needs as the UNMMG seeks to support the overall clinical care, research, and education missions of the UNM HSC. The CEO must lead a strong internal team to focus on customer service delivery and high performance in provider billing and collections and contracts with payers. The new leader will also develop a strategic plan to map out the future of its managed clinics, new potential clinics and clinical partnerships, and the recruitment of providers through its separate hiring capability. The UNMMG CEO will report to the Dean of the UNM School of Medicine through the head of clinical affairs who currently serves as the Chair of the UNMMG Board of Directors.

The successful candidate will have an advanced degree. They will also have the passion and expertise to advance the health of New Mexicans, a strong track record of managing and leading clinical operations, experience in an academic medical centers, and consummate change management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
