Assistant Vice President for Graduate Medical Education/Designated Institutional Official, Albert Einstein Healthcare Network

Job Description / Duties

The Assistant Vice President for Graduate Medical Education/Designated Institutional Official (AVP GME/DIO) serves as the physician leader of Graduate Medical Education (GME) for the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network focusing on Sponsoring Institution and program accreditation, faculty and program development, GME policy and strategy, program performance, and housestaff wellness.  The Einstein Healthcare Network trains more than 400 residents and fellows in 26 ACGME accredited programs, 3 dental residencies, and a podiatry residency program most of which are based at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia.  New residency programs will commence on July of 2019 at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery located in the western Philadelphia suburbs where an aggressive strategic plan to grow GME will result in nearly 150 additional housestaff over the next 5 years.  The position reports to the Chief Academic Officer and is supported by a robust, centralized GME administrative structure developed to allow the AVP GME/DIO to focus on important, key functions aimed at the betterment of GME in the Einstein Healthcare Network. The AVP GME/DIO ensures achievement of strategic goals and initiatives to provide quality training experiences aimed at developing competent, independently functioning healthcare care providers in an educational environment aligned with the mission of the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network. The AVP GME/DIO assists in developing GME budgets and financial operations. The AVP GME/DIO ensures that residents and fellows function within a culture of safe patient care and ensures that the GME programs work to achieve the Network’s quality and patient safety goals.  Ensuring accreditation compliance with the ACGME, Council on Podiatric Medical Education, and the Council on Dental Accreditation is key. The AVP GME/DIO works within the Office of Academic Affairs that includes additional support assets such as Library Services, Healthcare Simulation, Student Affairs, Research Education, and the Network Learning Support Department. The successful candidate is expected to continue in limited clinical practice in their chosen discipline. The Albert Einstein Healthcare Network is a major teaching affiliate of the Sydney Kimmel Medical College of the Thomas Jefferson University where the AVP GME/DIO will have an appropriate academic appointment. Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • An MD/DO degree and be board certified and eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania
  • At least 10 years of experience in Graduate Medical Education that demonstrates progressive responsibility and leadership.  Substantial tenure and experience as a Program Director in an ACGME program is required
  • A comprehensive understanding of ACGME standards/processes and experience with successful accreditation
  • The ability to effectively build positive, constructive relationships with others aimed at building collaboration, consensus and hig performance teams
  • Demonstrated past leadership accomplishments and expertise in decision-making and analytical skills
  • The ability to manage others, prioritize teamwork to achieve strategic and tactical goals for GME across multiple projects, programs and locations
