Medical Director of Research

Job Description / Duties

The Valley Medical Group seeks a Medical Director of Research with demonstrated progress as a research leader and Principal Investigator to join the Okonite Research Center. 

The Medical Research Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for the development, execution, and advancement of the institution’s research agenda.  The Medical Director of Research is a physician-scientist who partners with the Director of the Okonite Research Center to provide strategic, operational, and academic leadership for the hospital’s clinical and translational research enterprise. This role is ideally suited for an MD/DO with a strong record as a Principal Investigator (PI) on federally funded research projects, particularly through agencies such as the NIH, NHLBI, AHRQ, or DoD. The Medical Director is instrumental in integrating research across graduate medical education, mentoring faculty and physician trainees and fostering a culture of inquiry, innovation and scholarly productivity. In this capacity the Medical Director Serves as senior clinical leader for the Research program, advancing the institution’s mission to expand its impact in discovery and translational science.

Physician will spend 20% of time performing clinical responsibilities and 80% as the Medical Director of Research.

Qualifications / Required Skills

An MD or DO degree

Board certification in a clinical specialty

Dual Degree (e.g. MD/PhD, MD/MPH) or formal training in clinical research or epidemiology preferred.

Existing New Jersey Medical License, DEA and CDS required

8-10 years of progressive experience as a research leader and Principal Investigator

Experience developing or overseeing research education programs or GME scholarly tracks

Established track record of securing and managing federally funded research grants
