GME Simulation Center Assistant (Job ID: 12484)

Job Description / Duties

Under the general direction of the Manager of the Simulation Center, the Simulation Center Assistant will work within the domains of the Capability Framework for Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialists at the intermediate level within this role. They will provide administrative support to the Simulation Center and assist with simulation rooms, mannequin set-up and take down, application of moulage, and audio-visual equipment related to simulation-based experiences. The Sim Center Assistant will collaborate with the Simulation Operations Specialist and the Manager for all simulation-based experiences. Additional technical support and maintenance may include medical equipment such as IV pumps, hospital beds, syringe pumps and mobile medication workstations. 

Responsibilities:

1. Assist with digital audiovisual hardware and software systems to record simulated sessions with subsequent editing and transfer into an archival format for analysis.
2. Provide technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, monitors, LCD projectors, anesthesia machines and other equipment.
3. Support the use of digital media and web stream creation for educational and professional distribution, distribute content and back up data, and provide advanced troubleshooting.
4. Serve as simulator operator by programming, testing and running scenarios with faculty instructors, ensuring that the facility and equipment are set up for teaching sessions.
5. Participate in events providing exposure and insight to the program, including facility tours.
6. Knowledge of healthcare professions, procedures, and environments, including terminology, principals of patient care, and quality and safety.
7. Develop proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, including basic theory, design and implementation.
8. Conduct and document software and hardware upgrades and maintenance of manikin components as directed by manufacturer support.
9. Conduct and document preventative maintenance of equipment according to manufacturers’ recommendations. Monitor scheduled maintenance to ensure that equipment is operational. Assist with equipment deficiencies and systems to minimize down time.
10. Assist in the daily operations of the PCOM Simulation Center at Bayhealth including preparing and keeping accurate records, the Sim Center calendar, scheduling and requests, and documentation of accreditation requirements, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
11. Manages correspondence including email, phone calls, and mail, serving as the general Sim Center point-of-contact for inquiries.
12. Coordinates the Sim Center subcommittee meetings; collects information for agenda, creates meeting presentation and compiles and disseminates accurate minutes.
13. Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and other regulatory requirements. Assists in preparation of accreditation documents and reports including monitoring and tracking Sim Center activity, training, and inventory
14. Orders supplies and update sim center inventory records.
15. Provide communication and feedback to the Manager and Sim Operations Specialist on facility, technology, equipment, operational and other needs identified for overall maintenance and program functioning.
16. Support the short-, intermediate-, and long-term teaching, research and operational goals of the program.
17. Participate in coordination of facility and operational improvement.
18. Collect data to support research and commercial projects as appropriate.
19. Participate in event and scenario planning meetings to provide technical expertise on capabilities and limitations of equipment and facilities to meet course needs.
20. Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, repair and replacement needs for all equipment. Support and document routine equipment maintenance, inventory updates and equipment purchases.
21. Participate in technical training as necessary; attend conferences to stay current with simulation technology.
22. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Qualifications / Required Skills


  • Education: Associate degree
  • Two (2) years administrative experience. 
  • Preferred:  Two (2) years related experience in a simulation lab/center, or in clinical, medical, EMS or fire education.
