Job Description / Duties
The Director of Graduate Medical Education (GME) plays a pivotal role in shaping the medical professionals of tomorrow. This position involves overseeing the administration and coordination of all residency and fellowship programs within a healthcare institution. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, developing, and implementing educational policies, and providing leadership in curriculum development. The Director also collaborates with faculty, residents, and fellows to enhance the quality of training programs, promotes innovative educational practices, and serves as a liaison between the institution and accrediting bodies. Strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to excellence in medical education are essential for this role.
-Works with other GME faculty on continued improvements to enhance the process of educational quality assurance in residency education.
-Provides guidance and expertise to those GME faculty who desire to engage in the development and evaluation of educational and assessment projects.
-Assists in planning and evaluating programs to assure compliance with ACGME requirements; establish goals for assessment plans consistent with the Competency Outcomes of the ACGME.
-Coordinates and oversees institutional affiliation agreements between GME programs and outside institutions with the assistance of appropriate departments.
-Organizes and provides administrative support for all resident/fellow grievance and appeal matters.
-Maintains membership and serve a consulting role on relevant educational committees of the Institution.
-Collaborates with colleagues beyond the institution; participate in relevant regional and national medical education conferences and meetings.
Primarily works an office setting. Majority of time is spent working at a desk. Frequently works with computer terminal, calculator and various other office equipment. Required to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Responsible for working in a safe manner.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Master's degree in education with 7 years' experience in assessment, instructional design, and medical education or master's degree in healthcare administration or business administration with 7 years management experience in medical education or healthcare required. Experience in Graduate Medical Education (GME) highly preferred
