Job Description / Duties

Shreveport, LA - Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport and LSU Health Sciences Center – Shreveport announce an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished academic medicine leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Medicine.

 

The Chair of Medicine will provide strategic leadership, direction and coordination of administrative, clinical, educational, and research endeavors to the department’s 15 Divisions, 150 faculty physicians, 91 residents, and 98 fellows with a wide range of sub-specialties focused on unique clinical, technical, and research expertise dedicated to the compassionate delivery of health care. The Chair of Medicine will report directly to the Dean of the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport and work collaboratively with the leadership of Ochsner Health who manages the primary teaching hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe in partnership with LSU.

 

Building upon the vision of LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine, the Chair of Medicine will lead efforts that focus on the missions of LSU Health Shreveport which include redesigning the academic model for optimizing inter-professional service delivery and integration of care. The Chair will also be integral in developing systems of care in an Academic/Private partnership that provides state-of-the-art care to improve heath in the greater region.

 

The Chair will lead initiatives to further educate future physicians and teaching faculty who will transform healthcare and support evolving new models of personally centered, broadly inclusive multidisciplinary care that rewards access, value, and outcomes. They will support the advancement of innovation from discovery and translation to impacting clinical outcomes for the patient population, and enhancing the lives of the faculty and staff by providing a workplace that encourages personal and professional development and success, celebrates diversity, and rewards the contributions of each member.

 

Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport is home to one of three adult Level I Trauma Centers in the state of Louisiana, the School of Medicine, School of Graduate Studies, School of Allied Health Professions, and a robust research enterprise. The health system is host to 1,676 students who enrolled in degree programs during the Fall of 2023 and nearly 600 residents and fellows who are trained each year.

 

The successful candidate will be recognized as an outstanding leader with an excellent track record in clinical care, teaching, and research. Proven success in the areas of quality, performance management, program development and expansion, faculty recruitment, and retention and institutional collaboration within a premier health system is essential. Successful candidates will hold an MD or MD/PhD or equivalent, have completed an ACGME accredited residency in internal medicine, and maintain current board certification in their area of specialty. Eligibility for an unrestricted Louisiana medical license and an academic appointment at the rank of Professor are required.
