Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) at Thomas Jefferson
University, a premier national doctoral university located in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, seeks an innovative and dynamic leader to serve as its next Dean.
This is an exceptional opportunity to guide an innovative and long-standing
college of medicine to its next stage of evolution and grow its research,
education and clinical practice programs while serving as a key executive in
the President's cabinet at Jefferson Health.
Founded in 1824, Jefferson Medical College, now Sidney Kimmel
Medical College (SKMC), has awarded more than 31,000 medical degrees and has
more living graduates than any other private medical school in the nation. It
offers both undergraduate medical education programs and innovative joint
degree programs to more than 1,000 students each year. The medical college is
focused on educating physicians who will form and lead the integrated
healthcare delivery and research teams of tomorrow. As one of the oldest institutions
of higher education in the nation, SKMC emphasizes the attainment of clinical
excellence in its educational programs. It encourages the student body and
faculty to commit themselves to lifelong intellectual pursuits.
Jefferson Health now has 18 hospitals, more than 42,700 employees,
8,200 full and part-time students, 3,500 physicians/practitioners, 9,600 nurses
and 1,900 paid full-time and part-time faculty. It is the second largest
employer in Philadelphia and the largest health system in Philadelphia based on
total licensed beds.
Reporting to Mark L. Tykocinski, M.D., President, Thomas Jefferson
University, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for SKMC.
This crucial leadership position is responsible for the continued growth and
impact of the medical enterprise for the University, and offers a platform for
an outstanding executive to build on the legacy of innovative leadership in
medical education, cutting-edge research and clinical care. The Dean of SKMC
will also serve as the President of Jefferson University Physicians (JUP), the
faculty practice plan, and in that role is the academic leader of the health
system with a key leadership role in guiding strategy, health system clinical
program development, and clinical innovation.
Candidates should have demonstrated leadership in building upon
comprehensive medical research and educational programs, enhancing DEI and
administrative leadership (including experience as a dean, chair, senior
associate dean, center/institute director or comparable position) in a complex
academic medical environment. Candidates should also have superior
communication and collaboration skills; strong fiscal and management acumen;
the ability to fundraise; and an unwavering dedication to students, faculty and
staff.
