Job Description / Duties

Greenville, SC - The University of South Carolina (UofSC) and Prisma Health are, in partnership, seeking an innovative and accomplished leader to serve as its next Dean, University of South Carolina (UofSC) School of Medicine Greenville and Chief Academic Officer, Prisma Health-Upstate (formerly known as Greenville Health System). This privately funded public medical school offers a patient-focused educational experience where students are immersed in the healthcare system from their first week of school. The incoming Dean will play a critical role in realizing the full vision of the UofSC School of Medicine Greenville to educate physicians committed to care of the total patient, competent in technical skills and cognizant of population health principles. The UofSC School of Medicine Greenville's charter class enrolled 53 first-year medical students in August 2012 and currently has 405 medical students and 222 Prisma Health-Upstate resident physicians. The medical school received full accreditation from LCME in the fall of 2015 and is located on the Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Medical Campus. Prisma Health was created to pave the way for transformative changes to healthcare in South Carolina and reflects the changing healthcare landscape across the country. It is the largest not-for-profit health organization in South Carolina, serving more than 1.2 million patients annually. The new company is comprised of two affiliates – Greenville Health System as its Upstate affiliate and Palmetto Health as its Midlands affiliate – with more than 30,000 employees. The Dean will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer for the School of Medicine Greenville, responsible for the academic integrity of the medical school and setting the vision for the school's next stage of evolution. The Dean will also serve as the chief academic officer for Prisma Health-Upstate, responsible for the academics (education and research) of the affiliate and accountable for the development and support of the Health Sciences Center academic mission. Candidates must possess an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degree with a record of significant administrative and scholarly accomplishments in an academic medical setting. The successful candidate will have a national reputation for scholarly work, and possess superior communication and relationship-building skills. Strong fiscal acumen, capacity to engage donors and the ability to recruit top quality faculty and staff are requisites, as is the ability to lead through times of change.
