SVP and Vice Provost of Virtua Health CoM & Health Sciences of Rowan University and CAO of Virtua Health

Job Description / Duties

Virtua Health College of Medicine & Health Sciences of Rowan University and Virtua Health seeks a dynamic, distinguished physician leader to serve as its inaugural SVP/Vice Provost and Chief Academic Officer. The SVP/Vice Provost and Chief Academic Officer (Vice Provost/CAO) has oversight for the integration of academic activities involving research and education and participates in all strategic decisions and policy as a senior officer of Rowan University and Virtua Health.

In early 2022, Virtua Health and Rowan University announced the signing of an affiliation agreement to create a new academic health system. This partnership between the top 100 public research university and the largest health system in southern New Jersey has resulted in the creation of the Virtua Health College of Medicine & Health Sciences of Rowan University. Virtua Health made a significant philanthropic investment to Rowan University to create an endowment that helps support the partnership.  This will lead to the investment of faculty and educational programs, and the construction of a state-of-the-art research facility.

The Vice Provost/CAO will be the champion for academics, education, and research. This leader will be charged with the oversight of all osteopathic medical education, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as all of the infrastructure and systems that support the academic mission. The Vice Provost/CAO will be the point person in negotiations of strategic academic relationships, support and foster a culture of excellence, and provide input in strategic organizational decisions regarding program development.

The successful candidate will have an M.D., D.O., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent terminal degree with significant experience in academic medicine, and will have a demonstrated track record of championing excellence, leading change, and fostering engagement. The candidate will demonstrate national recognition for productivity and achievement in research and/or education, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. As the academic administrative leader for Rowan University and Virtua Health, candidates should have strong business skills and an understanding of what it takes to help enhance the academic mission in a competitive environment.

All nominations, expressions of interest, and applications including CV and letter of interest should be directed to Rachel Polhemus and Joyce DeLeo, Ph.D. through the office of Tricia Porter via e-mail to RowanVirtuaCAO@wittkieffer.com or 207.401.2298.
